High School Programs
DATING VIOLENCE
We will explore what teen dating abuse is and how it affects teens. Teens will be able to identify patterns in abusive dating relationships, as well as identify obstacles that make it difficult to get help. Teens will also learn strategies for getting help if they become a target of dating violence.
SEXUAL ASSAULT/DATE RAPE
Students examine the common beliefs surrounding sexual assault. We will explore staggering statistics of teen victimization. Emphasis is placed on date rape drugs, tips to protect yourself and what to do if you become a target.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT
Students will learn to define sexual harassment, the disciplinary consequences for the perpetrator and the emotional effects experienced by the target. Through role play activities students learn language skills to use when someone has cross the line and needs to stop.
Images of school yard bullying is re-examined in this two session bullying presentation. Today’s high school students are faced with bullying, cyber-bullying and hazing. We will explore the stress and pressure high school students feel today and the effects labelling and stereotyping have on their coping abilities. Through video and discussion we will explore how students can make the wrong choices and suffer the consequences of their actions. Examples of consequences of bullying will be introduced, including the Columbine High School massacre.
SEXTING
One in five students admits to sending sexually explicit photos or videos. Through video and discussion we will explore the concept that it is wrong to assume an image is going to remain private. Legal consequences will also be explored.
Students will learn how to assess the relationships in their lives to determine if they are healthy and be given steps toward engaging in healthy relationships. Through team-building activities students will understand different ways to communicate and find value in one another.
INTERNET SAFETY
Starting with the 2009-2010 school year each student, third-grade through high school, is required to attend an Internet Safety presentation. We will review safety rules, the dangers of posting photographs, sexting and myths versus reality of Internet predators.

BULLYING – Six week series for third- through eighth-grade students
Students will be taught to recognize various bullying behaviors. They will learn non-violent, positive strategies for coping with bullying behaviors. The topics of self-esteem, empathy and peer power will be explored. Includes 30 minute staff presentation.
FEELINGS – One 30-minute session for pre-kindergarten through fourth-grade students Students will be instructed on how to identify feelings and explore various options on how to deal with different emotions.
SELF-ESTEEM – One 30-minute session for kindergarten through sixth-grade students
Students will learn about the concept of self-esteem,where it comes from and the various things that influence it. They will discuss how current celebrity culture may affect our self-esteem.
FRIENDSHIP – One 30-minute session for pre-kindergarten through fourth-grade students
The topic of friendship will be explored, including discussion of qualities we want to see in both our friends and in ourselves. We practice ways to respond to old friends, and methods of establishing new friendships.
ANGER MANAGEMENT – One 30-minute session for kindergarten through sixth-grade students
Students will learn how to recognize triggers to anger. Various anger management techniques will be discussed, including both physical and mental components.
CONFLICT RESOLUTION – One 45-minute session for kindergarten through sixth-grade students
Students will be introduced to the concept of conflict.They will learn about various types of conflict and be instructed in differing methods of how to avoid conflict.
HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS – One 30-minute session for fifth- through eighth-grade students
Students will be led in discussion including such topics as friendships, cliques, boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, media influence, sexual harassment, and the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships. Components will include sexual harassment issues.
RESPECT/ RESPECTING DIFFERENCES – One 30-minute session for kindergarten through sixth-grade students
Students will learn the concept of respecting both themselves and other people, other people’s possessions, ways of doing things, feelings and dreams. The subject of respecting differences will be addressed, focusing on valuing the variations of culture, religion, and beliefs.
VIOLENCE AND THE MEDIA – One 45-minute session for fifth- through eighth-grade students
Students will be informed of the effects of over-consumption of media violence, including the concept of desensitization. They will learn the relationship between profit motive and corporate entertainment decision-making.
INTERNET SAFETY – One 45-minute session for seventh- through eighth-grade students
Students will be taught safety rules regarding keeping safe when making use of the internet. Discussions will include password protection, user ID, protection of personal information, identity theft, safety precautions, dangers associated with posting photographs, and the reality of internet predators.
PERSONAL BODY SAFETY – One 30-minute session for kindergarten through fourth-grade students
Students will be instructed in the NO, GO, TELL program, emphasizing the importance of keeping one’s body safe. Good, bad and confusing touches will be discussed, recognizing the right of self-control of one’s private body areas.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT – One 45-minute session for seventh- through eighth- grade students
Challenging current beliefs of sexual harassment, students will learn to define sexual harassment in the school andthe disciplinary consequences. They will learn the possible effects students experience as a result of being sexually harassed and where to turn for help.
DATING VIOLENCE – For grades 7-12
Issues of dating violence among teens will be explored. They will examine their own beliefs and the prevalent myths and facts associated; learn to identify the various forms of dating violence: verbal, emotional, physical and sexual; and the common tactics used by abusers. Students will also learn the basics of Power and Control, the Cycle of Violence, the importance of safety planning and how to help a victim.
SEXUAL ASSAULT – For grades 7-12
This program examines the common beliefs surrounding sexual assault and clarifies myths and facts. Illinois laws are explained. Students learn the staggering statistics of teen victimization. Date rape drugs and acquaintance rape are explored, and students learn prevention tips and resources.
BULLYING – For grades 7-12
In the first session, students learn to define bullying, examine methods used, understand the effects on victims and explore empathy. In the second session, students will continue the study of empathy while learning how to respond to and end bullying. Policies regarding and consequences of bullying will be addressed.
INTERNET SAFETY – One- to two-hour program for adults
Adults will be taught safety rules regarding keeping oneself and one’s children safe when making use of the internet. Discussions can include password protection, user ID, protection of personal information, identity theft, safety precautions, dangers associated with posting photographs and the reality of internet predators.
